Bloodhunter Push Their Sound To Brutal New Heights On Sons Of The Abandoned | Crannk Reviews

Savage doesn’t even begin to describe the vibe on Sons Of The Abandoned. Bloodhunter have brought us an album that hits harder than my mum with a wooden spoon when I was naughty as a kid.

Brilliantly technical guitar riffs, solos chiselled out of rock, drumming that rivals the best in the world and vocals that scream lyrics like a dragon spits fire. Bloodhunter explore the evolution of their music. Extreme, brutal yet balanced, atomic and atmospheric, Sons Of The Abandoned takes Bloodhunter to places they’ve never been before, and it’s a huge payoff for the band as they have produced their heaviest and grooviest album to date, a massive credit to themselves.

The album explores a more personal side of the band, focusing on their own identity, vulnerability, personal struggles, toxic environments, inner demons and a generational disconnect caused by superficial values in a world lost trying to find individuality amongst the chaos of life.

An extremely personal album which takes you on a roller coaster of the most extreme metal to an instrumental, “The Night Is Darker Before The Dawn”, that will have you entranced in a dream state, as well as covering one of my favourite bands, Annihilator’s “Human Insecticide”, a brilliant rendition of a classic Jeff Waters riff filled masterpiece.

Not an easy feat, which shows the brilliance of Bloodhunter as a band who are not scared to push their boundaries and take their music to the next level.

Rampaging riffs, glorious grooves, monstrous melodies, scorching speed and absolutely ambitious authenticity gives Sons Of The Abandoned a voice that needs to be heard, a touch that needs to be felt and a darkness that bursts into light.

It truly is an album that cries, “listen to me, I’m really fucking good!”

Diva Satánica delivers a masterclass in vocal dynamics, bringing this album to life with her guttural growls and scintillating screams, while the dual guitarists, Dani Arcos and Guillermo Starless, epitomise metal with melodic grooves and savagely slicing solos.

Golf clap for these genuinely talented artists please.

The rhythm section of bassist Fabián Tejeda and dexterous drummer Adrián Perales bring the bottom end to boomtown with obliteration and technicality heard once in a blue moon.

You simply can’t have a standout album if you don’t have insanely good guitarists, demonstrably devilish drumming, and of course vicious vocals, and Sons Of The Abandoned has it all and more.

This isn’t only a solid release, it’s a fucking statement. That is the sign of a burgeoning band.

Bloodhunter are not only here to stay, they’re here to slay!
