Ecdysis – “Dawn of the Smegmadon” Single Review | Crannk

What do you say when Sid from South Australian powerhouse Ecdysis asks you to review their latest single? Well, I’m going to tell you what you say. You give him a healthy and hearty, “FUCK YES I WILL!” And that’s what I’m here to do right now.

You might say I’m a little biased when it comes to South Australian bands that play exactly what I want to hear. Breakdowns, hooks, seismic solos and so, so much creamy heaviness, and I don’t mean that metaphorically. “Dawn of the Smegmadon” is a hilariously brutal new dick cheesy single that delights the ears while simultaneously disturbing the eyes. Quite the incredible feat, if you ask me.

There are certain qualities you can always expect, without fail, from Ecdysis. Their music will be a frothily frenzied, head splitting banger that never misses a beat, never loses its spark and remains ravenous from its opening note to its emphatic, ever black finish. It’s not humble. It’s not regular. It’s a fierce, beautifully written piece of South Australian smegma history.

These boys shouldn’t be restricted to our humble state. They should be touring the world, educating metalheads across the globe about the “Dawn of the Smegmadon.” The cheese is REAL, and I’m not talking about the cow or goat cheese you get from the supermarket. No, no. I’m talking about the grossest and most personal of cheeses: the dick cheese! The smegma!

Carrying an old school vibe reminiscent of The Black Dahlia Murder, “Dawn of the Smegmadon” is a flat out classic, no matter where you are in the world. As far as the film clip goes, I’d best leave that for you to experience when you get the opportunity. I will warn you, though: it’s not for the faint hearted. The cheesiness is off the fucking charts!

At the end of the day, the music speaks for itself. It’s fierce, dynamic and built for the stage, which I’m sure is where it will find itself before too long.

I always look forward to seeing what Ecdysis come up with, and I’ve never been disappointed. If I’m being honest, and slightly biased, I don’t think I ever will be.

The “Dawn of the Smegmadon” is nigh!
