Moodring Death Fetish Review: Emotional and Experimental

Moodring and Their New Album of Bliss

The alternative legends strike again with their new album Death Fetish, leading the way deeper into metal while still holding onto their signature sound.

Moodring have definitely let their true alternative identity shine through each and every individual song on this record, giving listeners plenty to fully grasp and connect with.

Death Fetish spans forty minutes across twelve tracks, delivering not just a collection of songs, but a cohesive experience. There’s a strong sense of storytelling throughout, paired with an electric sound that pulls you in and keeps you there.

“A New Addiction”

The album carries a consistent thematic thread, flowing from tracks like Half-Life to Ketamine, all the way through to the closing piece Coldmetalkiss. Each song feels like part of a larger system working together to tell the album’s story.

Sickf_ck in particular held me still with emotion. I found myself humming “like a psycho” while replaying it over and over again. Hunter Young and the band really poured themselves into every word and sound. He’s even spoken about how his personal health struggles helped shape the intensity behind the track.

Moodring as a band represent transformation — colour, emotion and evolution have always been central to their sound, and Death Fetish pushes that even further with a stronger, more defined edge.

It’s also worth noting the band’s crossover into the anime world, teaming up with Crunchyroll™ for Celvatess, which has its second season coming out in July.

Crunchyroll™ even released an AMV-style trailer on YouTube featuring the track Cannibal, originally from their EP Anywhere But Here, which dropped shortly before this album. A very cool crossover moment that shows just how far their sound is reaching.

“Coldmetalkiss”

Coldmetalkiss is a beautifully crafted closer. It wraps the album up with a more chilled and melodic approach, showcasing another side of Moodring’s range.

This track leans into their more indie and atmospheric influences, offering a softer but still emotionally powerful finish to the album.

Overall, this album is something I’d definitely recommend. It carried me through a few gaming sessions and just hit in all the right ways. There’s something about the melodies and emotional pull that really sticks with you.

If you’re looking for something that blends alternative, metal and emotion into one cohesive experience — this is it.
