Blood Sacrifice 3 Brings Underground Metal Carnage To Norwood

In the unsuspecting upper class suburb of Norwood in South Australia, nine of the heaviest bands in the state eviscerated a large crowd who were there to get blown the fuck away in the best way, the way only metalheads could.

Fast, loud and uber talented, the line-up for Blood Sacrifice 3 was absurdly phenomenal from start to finish. Beginning with The Eyes Of Death and ending with Putrescent Seepage, every band there laid waste, one after the other, to the loyal crowd who came out to see the underground talent Adelaide has to offer.

There were also a couple of Victorian bands, but for the sake of this review, I’m going to make those bands honorary South Aussies. So congratulations Monoliyth and The Maledict, with open arms we welcome you as our own.

Let’s face it, all metalheads are essentially family anyway, particularly here in SA.

Having interviewed all the bands on the day, one thing became abundantly clear. Every band was there to support every other band that was there.

I have found this to be a common thread across the whole Australian metal community. Where once upon a time, bands were up against each other for spots and things would get competitive, they now lift each other up and support each other more than ever before.

Having gone to four or five festivals this year, I have seen nothing but love between bands, crowds and promoters alike, and to be honest, it’s not only refreshing, but welcoming too.

Apart from sitting on my recliner at home and going to the footy with my twin daughters, being at a gig is my favourite place to be.

That is the metal family atmosphere.

It’s so tight, much like the music itself.

The Eyes Of Death, The Maledict And Denazen

The Eyes Of Death set the tone and the vibe for the show with a hearty performance.

The Maledict were explosive, feeding the fire and the frenzy that was yet to come, amping up the audience audaciously.

And the young fellas from Denazen showed us what the thrash and death metal future holds. Let me just say, metal is in safe hands with these guys. They fucking slayed!

So much atmosphere for a three-piece band.

All three of these opening bands were on top of their game, absolutely smashing it, but what was to come we could never have foreseen.

Sons Of Erebus

Sons Of Erebus were next up, and man, did they make themselves known.

A commanding performance for their ever-growing fan base here in Adelaide, making a statement from the first note to their last in a display of pure metal mastery.

And speaking of last notes, bassist Sam Murray played his final gig with the band on Saturday evening, bringing his era to an end.

Best of luck in the future, Sam. I’m sure we’ll cross paths again.

Spectral Dominion And Tongue Biter

Spectral Dominion brought the blackened tone to the night with a dark and brutal assault on the senses.

Heavy, ferocious and utterly barbarous, Spectral Dominion left a lasting effect on me. Or perhaps it was a curse. I guess we’ll find out soon enough 🤣.

Blunt and to the point.

From Phillip Island, two-piece rockers Tongue Biter took to the stage and embedded their brand of sludge into the Adelaide metal panorama.

I’ve only seen a few duos take to the stage and take command of a crowd. Hell Machine and Witch Spit come to mind, and we know how fucking insanely awesome those bands are.

Tongue Biter are another to add to that list. Perhaps not as full on and fast as the two aforementioned bands, but certainly blazing their own trail in the duo sphere and doing it well.

Bukkake

The final three bands were up, and to say there were a couple of questionable names among them would be an understatement.

Bukkake took to the stage, a full ten years after their last show.

The second “cumming” of a band with a name that could get me cancelled just for writing it, that is, if someone with an attitude and no sense of humour reports me.

Let me tell you, these guys gave me the “Dolmio Grin” with funny, yet super heavy and satirically humorous songs that upped the pulse rate and got the crowd riled up for the final two bands.

If Bukkake play live again, you should “cum” along!

As long as you’re not the person in the middle of the “Bukkake” pit, you’ll have a blast!

Such a funny sentence to write, especially when you picture it, you damn perverts, haha.

Monoliyth

I’ve been wanting to meet Monoliyth for about a year now. Having already reviewed their album, He Who Kills, I was excited to see the boys live and in person, and then interview them straight after their set!

You fucking beauty!

Hailing from the Melbourne death metal scene, Monoliyth graced us with their almighty presence and laid waste to all who witnessed their tight as fuck set.

Truly aggressive and authoritative, Monoliyth, who drove the eight hours from Melbourne to get here, revelled in all their glory, giving us a taste of what Victoria has to offer while smashing it clean out of the park.

Legendary stuff.

These guys are bursting at the seams with talent. A father and son guitar duo just adds to the marvel that is Monoliyth.

Putrescent Seepage

Putrescent Seepage were the final band of the night, and I will admit, I only saw their first few songs because I was outside interviewing Monoliyth straight after their set, so my sincere apologies to the band.

But what I did see captivated me.

Putrescent Seepage, a name that sticks with you and can be a bit tricky to say after a drink or two, brought hell on earth to Adelaide.

Armageddon in Norwood.

Impressive musicianship, grotesque guttural growls and an overall sense of sickening severity drilled its way into my brain and set up camp.

As they said in my day, the carpet matched the drapes.

Although it meant something completely different back then in the olde times of the 80s and 90s, in this case it simply means the music matched the band name.

Fucking fierce.

Blood Sacrifice 3

Thank you to our wonderful hosts Cindy and Ethan of Realm Of Thorns Promotions for being so accommodating. You guys put on a great gig with some pretty cool people and went the extra mile to make us feel welcome.

You’re both goddamned legends.

The afternoon was the kindling.

The evening stoked the flame.

The night fuelled a full-blown bonfire, bringing the heat to Adelaide on a very cold night in the middle of winter.

Blood Sacrifice 3 was absolutely bonkers!

Blood Sacrifice 4?

The thought sends shivers up my spine.
