There are interviews where you get carefully rehearsed PR answers.
Then there are interviews with Nagash.
Within about three minutes we’d already gone from Nexus Polaris to plotting world domination, Hellhammer convincing him to resurrect The Kovenant, fans crying in South America, smashing idiots with microphone stands and Australia’s reputation for trying to murder every living creature that lands on its shores.
Business as usual.
For Australian fans, though, this isn’t just another international tour announcement. This is the first time—the very first time—The Kovenant will perform on Australian soil.
Considering Nexus Polaris has spent nearly three decades sitting comfortably on the Mount Rushmore of symphonic black metal, it’s honestly ridiculous that it has taken this long.
Yet somehow… here we are.
And according to Nagash, the reunion almost never happened.
“I really didn’t want to start the whole band up again… I was kind of doing other things in life, plotting world domination, trying to become a dictator in my own country… you know, the normal stuff.”
Apparently, it took none other than Hellhammer to drag him back into orbit.
Nagash laughed that he initially said no, but eventually agreed to meet up with the classic lineup. The expectation? Maybe a rehearsal. Maybe a couple of nostalgic festival appearances.
Instead, lightning struck.
“We played it flawlessly. It’s like we never fucking stopped playing… We giggled like little girls after the first song.”
That chemistry changed everything.
What started as a one-off reunion suddenly snowballed into more festivals, headline shows and now—finally—Australia.
Even better?
The Kovenant aren’t simply dusting off old memories. They’re building new ones.
During our chat, Nagash casually dropped one of the biggest pieces of news fans could hope for.
“We’re almost there for a new album… like eight out of ten songs ready already.”

Not rumours.
Not wishful thinking.

Why Nexus Polaris?
If you’re finally stepping onto Australian soil after almost thirty years, you don’t overthink the setlist.

But fans expecting a strict 47-minute nostalgia trip are in for a surprise.
Nagash revealed the band quickly realised Nexus Polaris wasn’t long enough for a headline show.
So they kept digging.

This isn’t simply an album playthrough.

Australia’s Reputation…
Of course, eventually the conversation drifted towards Australia.
As it always does.

Spiders.
Things hiding under toilets.
Drop bears…
Well… maybe not drop bears.
Nagash admitted Australia’s wildlife has him slightly concerned.
“I just know that everything there is trying to kill you.”
Honestly?
Fair enough.
Thankfully, I assured him that unless he decides to wrestle a funnel-web spider or recreate Steve Irwin’s greatest hits, he’ll probably survive long enough to make it to Melbourne.
Probably.
More Than Just Another Tour
The thing that stood out most wasn’t the music.
It wasn’t the reunion.
It wasn’t even the new album.
It was how genuinely excited Nagash sounded about meeting people.
“I’m not the kind of type that goes to the hotel room and just sits there like a rock star. I like to hang out with people, talk to them… Don’t be afraid to say hello.”
There’s something refreshing about hearing that from someone who’s spent decades helping shape extreme metal.
No manufactured mystique.
No fake rock-star ego.
Just a bloke who wants to play music, meet fans and have a bloody good time.
Nearly thirty years after Nexus Polaris first launched listeners into the cosmos, The Kovenant are finally making the journey to Australia.
And judging by the excitement in Nagash’s voice, this isn’t a farewell lap.
It’s the start of the next chapter.
