LYNCHMADA Resurrect “The Other Mexico” With Crushing 20th Anniversary Re-Recording

Australian metalcore veterans Lynchmada have announced the return of one of their most iconic tracks, unveiling a freshly re-recorded version of “The Other Mexico” set for release on July 8.

Originally appearing on the Gold Coast outfit’s 2006 debut album of the same name, the track has been given a modern overhaul while retaining the aggression and intensity that helped establish Lynchmada as a respected force in Australia’s heavy music underground.

The updated version arrives just ahead of the band’s highly anticipated appearance at Necrosonic Festival in August, marking their first live performance since 2019.

Rather than dramatically reinventing the song, Lynchmada chose to stay true to the original spirit of the track while taking advantage of contemporary production standards. The result is a sharper, heavier and more sonically devastating version of a fan favourite that has endured for two decades.

Mixing and mastering duties were handled by Chris Themelco of Monolith Studios, who embraced the challenge of bringing new life to a piece of Australian metalcore history.

“Helping bring to life this reimagining of a Lynchmada classic was a blast,” said Themelco. “Giving it a fresh, modern and crushing sound to remind people why the band is still held in such high regard was the ultimate goal.”

The band explained that their upcoming festival appearance inspired them to do something more significant than simply reunite for another show.

“When we decided that we would play Necrosonic, we felt like we wanted to do more than just play another show,” the band said. “What better way to celebrate the band and do something special than to revisit The Other Mexico after 20 years!”

For many Australian heavy music fans, Lynchmada were a defining part of the mid-2000s metalcore movement. Sharing stages with international heavyweights including Lamb of God, Suicide Silence and Cavalera Conspiracy, the band carved out a reputation for combining groove-laden riffs, metalcore aggression and relentless live energy.

Their catalogue includes the albums The Other Mexico and To The Earth, along with the widely recognised single Green River. While the band stepped away from the spotlight for nearly a decade, their influence has remained firmly embedded within the Australian metal community.

Necrosonic Festival Director Kent Haines, who has a long personal history with the band, expressed his excitement about seeing Lynchmada return to the stage.

“It’s an honour to bring back one of my favourite bands of all time,” said Haines. “I signed them to my first-ever label, supported them in their endeavours, and was then asked to play for them, leading to recording bass guitar on their Magnum Opus record, To The Earth. I cannot wait to see them back on stage!”

With a revitalised version of one of their defining songs and a rare live appearance locked in, Lynchmada’s return is shaping up to be one of the more nostalgic and exciting moments on the Australian heavy music calendar in 2026.

“The Other Mexico” will be available on all major streaming platforms from midnight AEST on July 8 via The Harm Company.
