London Technical Metalcore Outfit Perpetual Paradox Unleash Ferocious New Single “Smell the Rot”

London’s Perpetual Paradox are turning the intensity up once again with the release of their blistering new single, “Smell the Rot,” the first taste of their upcoming EP, May Misery Befall You, due for release on August 28 through Bleeding Art Collective.

Following the expansive approach of their 2025 full-length Deathwish, the band have deliberately stripped things back—not in aggression, but in focus. The upcoming five-track EP places the spotlight firmly on crushing riffs, memorable songwriting and razor-sharp execution, allowing every breakdown, solo and technical flourish to hit with purpose rather than existing purely for complexity’s sake.

That philosophy is immediately evident on “Smell the Rot.” Arguably the most technically demanding track on the EP, it throws together relentless blast beats, dizzying chromatic riffs, dissonant chord work and an explosive shred section that pays tribute to one of the band’s biggest influences, The Black Dahlia Murder. Despite the instrumental chaos, the song never loses sight of its groove, delivering a track that’s as memorable as it is punishing.

Lyrically, Smell the Rot paints a bleak picture of a society willingly embracing its own downfall. Rather than offering hope, the track confronts the idea that humanity may already be beyond saving, exploring themes of corruption, isolation and the illusion of togetherness in an increasingly disconnected world.

Speaking about the song, the band explain that it centers on humanity accepting its inevitable collapse, where “the rot” has already spread long before everything finally falls apart. They point to the line “apostates together but dying alone” as a reflection of modern society—more connected digitally than ever, yet increasingly isolated on a human level. In their view, true unity only comes once everything has been reduced to ashes.

With May Misery Befall You shaping up to be a tighter, heavier and more focused release, Perpetual Paradox look set to deliver one of their strongest collections of material to date.

The official music video for “Smell the Rot” is available now, while May Misery Befall You arrives August 28 via Bleeding Art Collective.
