Swaying with the glide of the wind and mixed with an electronic system that drills into the brain, HOLISSSTIK have dropped their new album, Chapter I: This Endless Solitude, out now through Season of Mist.
Hello all! It’s been a while since I’ve been back in the fray, and I’m excited to bless your soul with an overdrive destruction of your nervous system.
Slow, touching, but most of all magnificent, HOLISSSTIK churn out this new album with grace, resetting our minds into an order of wonder. Chapter I: This Endless Solitude grabs your attention, serenading you with beauty backed by an electronic pulse.
Freshly arrived from the ether, HOLISSSTIK released several singles throughout the year to tease the album and give us a taste of what was to come. At the centre of this unique project is Tor-Helge Skei, a Norwegian multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer who shares his work through a rotating cast of singers and artists, bringing his vision to the world.
The legendary Tor-Helge Skei is a man of wisdom and the structural integrity of a solar system.
“Projections”
How does one even begin? This is a song so captivating, with slow hums and electricity shooting through your veins. It is just… woah.
The song holds a form of artwork hidden within its sound, holding you close and making me feel as though I am walking through the sands of time. Its sound is incredibly difficult to describe without giving everything away.
You need to hear it and feel it. It is an experience in itself.
The first thing that came to mind, for some reason, was Dune. Then came the feeling of an astral Björk, while still remaining completely its own sound.
Truly, an ethereal experience.
“Behind Me”
Power and strength shoot out at you. Its deep, heavy sway leaves you energised and ready.
With a rhythm embedded in the brain, the track instils a small sense of dread as it pulls you closer. The feeling shakes me down as it places me deep within a forest. It is mystical for sure, but the edge of technology follows closely behind.
It is a symphony of Norway that holds true. It is difficult to talk about the instruments when I am not entirely sure what is being played, but the layers running through my headphones are deep. Harmonic vocals, deep bass and digital harmony combine to create something vast.
HOLISSSTIK have shaken the snow from the ages, giving us a symphony through the fires, built upon systematic rhythm.
This entire album hits hard, and giving in to its sway is irresistible. I had to give Chapter I: This Endless Solitude a couple of listens before I could actually begin writing.
This is tremendous work, and I appreciate the sound HOLISSSTIK have given us. We are all keen to hear where the project travels next, and I know I will be sitting on the edge of my seat.
May the riffs guide you. Mr Doom, out!
