Iron Triangle Smoke & Ruins Tour Wrap: Regional Metal, Community And Six Shows Across SA

Smoke & Ruins Tour Wrap

Guest Feature by Benny McGee, Iron Triangle Bookings

It all came together late last year when Brandon from Greedy Bunch of Parasites and Robert from Ceduna’s KNAW approached me with an idea they had about teaming up for some shows. What spawned from that idea turned into a full six date tour of South Australia!

I contacted Dan Pearse of False Flag Promotions in Port Pirie about the bands taking part in Metal United Down Under. From there, we built a tour leading into that event, starting in Whyalla, then onto Adelaide, Port Lincoln at the awesome SOUNDCITY venue, Ceduna, the home of KNAW, and finally Port Augusta for the Smoke & Ruins / MUDU crossover event, where Suffer the Evenue and the mighty Life Pilot joined the lineup to lead into MUDU the next day!

This was all a great learning experience for us, and we worked together with ideas and suggestions on where to go, venues to play, swapping headlining spots, and which bands would join each stop of the tour. We had some amazing bands perform at each show, such as Stoved, Alterdrive, Tartarus, Drown This Fury and Stubbie!

We decided to create a tour shirt to celebrate the first tour we had all been a part of, and we approached the legend himself, Chalky of Moshriff Creative, to help bring this idea to life. He created a killer design based around each of the tour dates, with mutated monsters fighting each other on the shirt. So awesome!

We’re eternally grateful to brother Chalky for really bringing our idea of what Smoke & Ruins meant visually. The event posters themselves are also absolutely killer, featuring a different monster attacking a local landmark. He captured that idea perfectly!

All the shows exceeded our expectations, with awesome support for all the bands. We all learnt from and helped one another, and the bonds between us across all six shows became very strong.

To see it conclude at MUDU was amazing, with so many other bands killing it on the day and a big turnout getting right behind them.

I’m eternally grateful to GBOP and KNAW for the opportunity to help put this together with them. We all had a ball, the bands absolutely killed it, and great lifelong friendships were created along the way!
