No shade to anyone or anything, but did you notice how the entire “experimental” fanbase rose to give an ovation when French Canadian rock duo Angine de Poitrine took over the For You pages of every social media platform?
Then, within a week, weird experimental music was back to being… well, just that. Weird and experimental.
I haven’t heard much from my community of freaks since then. HOWEVER, I come typing to you with some great news for weirdos like us:
Primus and TOOL.
Yes, I’m about to become more insufferable than I already am.
Primus
Primus are my personal holy grail. I have a tattoo of Pork Soda just to signify to the world that yes, I am a virgin, and yes, I have no friends.
After four years without another substantial Primus release, it kinda felt like legendary frontman Les Claypool might have hit burnout. On a serious note, the last Primus studio album was released in 2017, and I say this with the utmost respect I possess: The Desaturating Seven sucked.
Straight tomatoes. Boo them off the stage levels of sucked.
That wasn’t Primus. That sounded like Les had been left alone with some mushrooms and far too much spare time.
I digress.
After The Desaturating Seven, we received Conspiranoid in 2022, which was like breathing fresh country air after living in a polluted city your entire life. Since then, there had been one off songs and Sessanta material, but not the kind of substantial Primus release I had been starving for.
Les was still out there slapping his bass and redefining everything we thought was possible while playing bass and singing, but I needed more.
So, when I logged into Facebook like clockwork and saw a message from my friend saying, “New Primus songs,” I screamed.
I genuinely screamed.
Primus had released A Handful of Nuggs, a four track EP featuring the new song “The Ol’ Grizz,” their cover of Dio’s “Holy Diver” with Puddles Pity Party on vocals, “Little Lord Fentanyl,” and a live version of “Duchess (And The Proverbial Mind Spread).”
And guess who appears on “Little Lord Fentanyl”?

The frontman of TOOL, A Perfect Circle and Puscifer.
This release has rebuilt my soul. It has reignited my annoyingly loud love for Primus.
THEN, I found out that Queens of the Stone Age are coming Down Under with Primus as special guests.
Holy shit. My heart exploded.
I don’t know who is watching over me, but thank you.
I think that’s enough about Primus before I genuinely lose my mind. Let’s move on to some other news.
TOOL
TOOL drummer Danny Carey has confirmed that the band are working on songs for what would become their sixth studio album, the follow up to 2019’s Fear Inoculum. Carey has said that 2027 is the goal, but it is not yet a confirmed release date.
Now, don’t get me wrong here. I love TOOL just as much as I love Primus, but Fear Inoculum is arguably the worst album in their entire discography.
I personally don’t like it, but my favourite TOOL album is Ænima, so take my words with the biggest grain of salt imaginable.
This doesn’t negate my excitement, of course. Seeing Puscifer release Normal Isn’t and A Perfect Circle return with new music through “Starless” before another TOOL album properly emerged really made me upset.
I’m also nervous about the execution.
Is it going to sound the same? Will it share the same themes? Where are they taking it?
I DON’T KNOW, and I don’t do well with the unknown.
If you’re the same, don’t worry. When the album finally drops, allegedly in 2027, you’ll hear about it from me first, right here like always.
I love my “intolerable” music. No, I don’t think it makes me different. I think it means I’m unafraid to like what I like without fearing that someone will judge me for it.
