Deep Purple Release Arrogant Boy As First Taste Of New Album SPLAT!

Rock royalty Deep Purple are back with a brand new single, and honestly, if there was ever a band that could still come roaring out of the gates with that classic hard rock fire in the belly, it is Deep Purple.

The legendary British rockers have released their new song “Arrogant Boy”, the first taste of their upcoming studio album SPLAT!, which is set for release on July 3 via earMUSIC.

“Arrogant Boy” wastes no time getting straight into it. It is fast, punchy, full of swagger, and carries that unmistakable Deep Purple energy that has powered so much of heavy rock history. There is a real sense of momentum in this one, the kind of track that reminds you why Deep Purple are still spoken about with such respect across generations of rock and metal fans.

Deep Purple are currently featured on the cover of Classic Rock Germany, where “Arrogant Boy” has been described as “an electrifying song in the style of Space Truckin’ or Highway Star”, while also noting that the song does not simply copy those classics, but cleverly varies them.

Frontman Ian Gillan offered some insight into the story behind the new single, explaining:

“This is the story of Billy who couldn’t read or write. He is unhappy with things, so he speaks up, and finds a way of irritating, one way or another, the elite.

And I can’t think of anything more fun than irritating the elite. It would be a joyous exercise for me every morning after coffee.”

That line alone feels very Deep Purple. There is wit, rebellion, a little bit of cheek, and that refusal to just sit quietly in the corner. “Arrogant Boy” taps into that spirit with a hard rock charge that feels familiar in all the right ways, while still pushing forward with purpose.

The release of “Arrogant Boy” comes one week after Deep Purple announced their new studio album SPLAT!. Once again, the band has teamed up with producer Bob Ezrin, continuing a creative partnership that has helped shape the band’s more recent studio output. That collaboration has already delivered major chart success, with recent Deep Purple albums reaching number one in multiple countries.

At the heart of SPLAT! is an idea conceived by Ian Gillan. Rather than looking at the end as destruction, the album explores it as transformation. SPLAT! takes the idea of humanity’s end and reframes it not as a blunt apocalyptic collapse, but as a metamorphosis beyond physical existence.

That is a pretty massive concept, and with Deep Purple behind it, you know it is not going to be handled in a small way. This is a band that helped build the foundations of hard rock and heavy music, and even now they are still looking for new ways to tell stories, challenge ideas, and deliver songs with power behind them.

More of the album concept is expected to be revealed in the weeks leading up to release, but “Arrogant Boy” already gives fans a strong first look into this next chapter.

Deep Purple have nothing left to prove, but that has never stopped them from continuing to create. “Arrogant Boy” is proof that the fire is still there, the attitude is still there, and SPLAT! is shaping up to be another major moment from one of rock’s most important bands.

SPLAT! will be released on July 3 via earMUSIC.
