Norwegian metal force Tonic Breed, the brainchild of multi-instrumentalist Patrik K. Svendsen, is set to drop a juggernaut of a single, “Anew”, on June 19th, 2025—and it features none other than drum legend Chris Adler (ex-Lamb of God, Megadeth). If you’ve been waiting for that old-school Adler fire behind crushing modern riffs, this one’s for you.
“His riffs are fucking sick,” Adler says about Patrik’s writing. “We did have to take a minute to both feel good about what this would be — meaning I beat up his song like a fucking Rocky movie — but I knew it had the parts and strength.”
It all started when Patrik reached out to Adler with a rough demo full of chaotic riffage and placeholder drums. What followed was a transcontinental collaboration that transformed the raw track into a razor-sharp metal assault. Adler didn’t just lay down drums—he helped restructure and elevate the song into something truly explosive.
“To me, this is the most Lamb of God-style drumming I’ve heard from Chris since he was in Lamb of God,” Patrik says. “I’m sure some metal guitarists would kill to hear Chris Adler’s drumming behind their riffs — I’ve been lucky enough to experience that firsthand.”
“Anew” was mixed and mastered by the renowned Machine, known for his work on Ashes of the Wake and Sacrament. With this kind of pedigree, expect nothing less than a sonic battering ram.
Adler calls the final product “an action movie that’s fun to watch”—a perfect metaphor for a song that’s equal parts cinematic and brutal. He adds:
“It’s been a privilege to work with Patrik. Humbling. You’ll know what I mean when you hear it.”
“Anew” will also appear on Tonic Breed’s upcoming full-length album, which continues the project’s run of killer collaborations. Past releases have included work with Dirk Verbeuren (Megadeth), Björn Strid (Soilwork), and Michael Gilbert (Flotsam and Jetsam).
Speaking of Gilbert, check out the latest single “The Die Is Cast”, which features a ripping solo from the Flotsam and Jetsam guitarist. The track is all-out thrash with a heavy groove, carried by Patrik’s signature songwriting and production chops.
