STRUCK A NERVE STRIKES THEIR FIRST BLOW

There is a talking point going around at the moment asking the question: who will step into “The Big 4’s” massively thrashed high-top shoes once they all call it a day? Slayer occasionally comes out of retirement to play a show here and there. Megadeth will release their final album early next year followed by an extensive final world tour. If I’m honest, I don’t see Metallica lasting a hell of a lot longer. Anthrax are set to release their new, and possibly final, album next year. Testament will stick around for a bit longer with the injection of youth behind the kit. But who will fill the stadium-sized shoes left by these bands?
England’s titanic thrash newbies, Struck A Nerve, might just be the answer to the ever-growing question asked above. Their debut album, the self-titled Struck A Nerve, is a savage introduction to the world of thrash metal, and it’s turning heads, snapping necks, and bursting eardrums all around the world. The sonic earthquake left in their wake is proof that these four guys are ready to shred their way to the top of the thrash world with breakneck speed and pounding precision.
With demolishing drumming and gargantuan guitar grooves, Struck A Nerve aren’t here to fuck spiders — they’re here to make a permanent impression on thrash metal as a whole. The band consists of two shredders, Nathan Sand and Lexell Altair Garrido, bassist and vocalist Aarran Tucker, and Christopher Williams keeping the beat behind the kit. They tell a story of barbarism and abuse throughout human existence, and how we as humans never seem to learn from the lessons history has taught us. We are perpetually on the edge of oblivion and soon to reach the tipping point — so why not have some killer tunes to go down with it?
What Struck A Nerve have delivered with this, their first album, is aggressive, extreme, and as punishing as any debut thrash release I’ve ever heard. Nine tracks of intensely crushing thrash metal that will have you thinking, “Perhaps these guys could eventually step into the shoes left vacant by the bands that began the monumental thrash metal movement.” There is hope that thrash will live on after the elder statesmen of the genre finally hang up their guitars for good.
Give Struck A Nerve a crack and see for yourself that thrash metal is a multi-generational genre, unlike many others that wither and die on the vine. Thrash is here to stay, and it’s in safe hands with bands like Struck A Nerve, who are only at the beginning of their meteoric rise.
