Self Deception Interview: Patrick “Hagge” Hallgren Talks Australian Tour 2026,Time’s Up & Signing With Napalm Records

There are bands that tour.
There are bands that grind.
And then there are bands like Self Deception — the Swedish rock juggernaut that takes twenty years of fire, failure, fury, and evolution… and turns it into a worldwide party people are still trying to recover from.

Fresh off a sold out European arena run and boasting 75+ million Spotify streams, Self Deception are officially in their imperial era — and in April 2026, they’re bringing that chaos straight back to Australian shores for their first ever headline tour, courtesy of Phoenix AU.

Australian fans already know what’s coming.
If you were in the pit during their 2023 run with Electric Callboy, you witnessed the carnage:
Confetti cannons. Pop-metal bangers. Sweat-soaked mosh pits. A bass player losing his shoes and launching himself into a crowd of maniacs.

So when frontman Andreas Clark, drummer Erik Eklund, guitarist Arvid Axelsson, and bassist Patrick “Hagge” Hallgren announced they’d return with their own show, a bigger production, and a new era under Napalm Records… Australia collectively said:

“Time’s Up — bring the chaos.”

From Wrong-Number Text to Global Phenomenon

Formed in 2005 through a literal wrong-number text message between Andreas and Erik, Self Deception grew from misfit beginnings into one of Sweden’s most electrifying modern rock exports. Their catalog of high-energy anthems — “Fight Fire With Gasoline,” “Hell and Back,” “Stockholm Hearts,” and the chart-smashing 2023 album You Are Only As Sick As Your Secrets — has taken them from clubs to arenas and into the headphones of millions.

And 2026 is shaping up to be their biggest chapter yet.

Catching Up With Hagge – “Australia… you’re f*ing crazy”**

I caught up with bassist and resident chaos engine Patrick Hagge Hallgren, and right from the jump, it felt like catching up with a mate who’s lived three lifetimes on the road since we last spoke.

When I asked about their previous Australian tour with Electric Callboy, Hagge lit up instantly:

“It was the best time ever. The Australian audience is crazy. It was non-stop party for a week… I can’t wait to come back.”

One of the wildest stories came from Sydney — a show that almost didn’t happen thanks to cancelled flights, chaos at the airport, and a last-minute scramble that would break most bands.

Self Deception didn’t break.
They doubled down.

“We had to get a private plane. We landed 40 minutes before the show… no soundcheck, nothing. Just straight on stage in front of 6,500 people.”

What followed?
Technical issues. Mayhem. Zero time to think… so Hagge took it upon himself to fix the vibe:

“I hadn’t done a shoey yet, so I did one mid-show… then I lost my shoes anyway and ended up out in the mosh pit.”

Classic.
Chaotic.
Peak Self Deception energy.

A New Era With Napalm Records – and “Time’s Up” Sets the Tone

With the band now moving into a massive new chapter under Napalm Records, I asked Hagge about the fresh direction and the new single “Time’s Up”.

“It’s high energy, exactly what we love to do… definitely written to be played live. And the next single coming early next year? People won’t expect it.”

Self Deception have always refused to stagnate — something Hagge hammered home proudly:

“We never write two similar songs back-to-back. It always has to be something new.”

They’re not just dropping an album next year.
They’ve already started writing the album after that.

Twenty years in and they’re hungrier than most bands two years in.

Evolution, Catharsis & 75 Million Streams Later…

Given the band’s massive trajectory — from early online demos to world stages — I asked Hagge what that journey has done to him as a performer.

“We love to experiment. We love to evolve. That’s why we’re still here… and why we’re still excited.”

And that excitement is about to be unleashed on Australian soil once again — but this time, bigger, louder, and entirely on their own terms.

If their 2023 run was pure chaos, these headline shows are going to be next level. New era. New label. New songs. And a band hitting the twenty-year mark with the hunger of kids who just discovered distortion pedals.

Outro – The Party Starts Now

Self Deception aren’t just bringing a show.
They’re bringing a celebration of survival, evolution, and two decades of refusing to slow down or fit inside any box the industry tried to place them in.

April 2026 is going to be sweaty, loud, messy, and unforgettable.
And if you see a bassist flying through the pit with one shoe —
well, mate… you’ve probably made it to the right gig.
