Finnish grindcore legends Rotten Sound are back — and they’re not holding anything back. After outrunning the apocalypse on their last full-length, the band now return with another destructive, politically charged detonation: the upcoming EP Mass Extinction, out December 12 via Season of Mist.
The new record takes aim squarely at modern chaos — misinformation, polarization, censorship, and the disintegration of community — with Rotten Sound’s trademark ferocity. Leading the charge is the blistering new single, “Brave New World”, a furious anthem calling for unity amidst the noise.
“This is one of the most aggressive songs on our new EP,” the band explain. “‘Brave New World’ is about how misinformation, polarization, conspiracy theories, and censorship have led people into a state of distrust. Our strong sense of community has been replaced by skepticism and fear. The fight for coherent and reliable information is now a constant struggle.’”

Clocking in at under ten minutes, Mass Extinction is Rotten Sound at their most precise and punishing. The record’s eight tracks are cut from the same radioactive cloth that birthed Apocalypse, yet sharper, faster, and more venomous.
Ushered in by a chilling opening address from cult leader Jim Jones, Mass Extinction tears through a festering web of societal ills — from the lies of political leaders to the fractures of modern communication. “Trust no one,” roars vocalist Keijo Niinimaa, as the band detonates riff after riff like a string of Molotov cocktails.
Formed in 1993, Rotten Sound have become one of the longest-standing and most respected forces in grindcore. The core trio — Mika Aalto (guitar), Keijo Niinimaa (vocals), and Sami Latva (drums) — continue to push the sonic and lyrical limits of the genre while maintaining a fierce DIY ethos.
