PARADISE LOST Return With Haunting New Album ‘Ascension’ – Out September 19 via Nuclear Blast And Releases First Single ‘Silence Like The Grave’

UK icons of gothic doom, PARADISE LOST, are set to make a triumphant return with their 17th studio album, Ascension, dropping September 19th through Nuclear Blast Records. Marking their first release in five years since 2020’s critically acclaimed Obsidian, Ascension reaffirms the band’s stature as one of metal’s most enduring and revered acts.

Produced by guitarist Gregor Mackintosh and expertly mixed/mastered by Lawrence Mackrory, the album delivers a rich tapestry of gothic melancholy, death-doom heaviness, and somber introspection that fans have come to revere over PARADISE LOST’s impressive 35+ year journey.

The album’s artwork fittingly features the chilling 19th-century painting “The Court of Death” by George Frederic Watts, currently housed at the Tate Gallery in London. This evocative image — depicting Death as an enthroned angel attended by Silence and Mystery — encapsulates the thematic essence of Ascension: a meditation on mortality, suffering, and the futility of worldly power.

Frontman Nick Holmes offers this poetic reflection:

Ascension is a cavalcade of molten misery, a vigorous sorrow-filled stroll through a wicked world of glorious triumph and pitiful tragedy.”

🔥 FIRST SINGLE & VIDEO: ‘Silence Like The Grave’

As a first taste of the new era, PARADISE LOST have unveiled the album’s crushing lead single ‘Silence Like The Grave’ — a track that blends mournful melodies with powerful doom-laden riffs, enveloped in the band’s signature atmosphere of darkness and despair.
