Chinese Mongolian Progressive Metal Force To Unleash New Album October 24 Via Metal Blade Records
Chinese Mongolian progressive metal visionaries NINE TREASURES will release their long-awaited new full-length, Seeking The Absolute, on October 24 through Metal Blade Records. To mark the occasion, the band has dropped the record’s first single and video, “Real Dream”, now streaming worldwide.
Formed in 2010 by vocalist/guitarist Askhan in the autonomous region of Inner Mongolia, NINE TREASURES have carved out a truly distinctive sound that fuses heavy metal power with traditional Mongolian instrumentation and throat singing. Thunderous guitars, bass, and drums collide with the balalaika and the morin khuur (horsehead fiddle), creating a kaleidoscopic sound that is as atmospheric and progressive as it is headbang-inducing.
Over the last decade, the band has become a festival mainstay across Asia, playing more than 100 shows a year — sometimes to crowds of up to 50,000 — and releasing four acclaimed albums. With Seeking The Absolute, NINE TREASURES embark on their first worldwide campaign, marking both their debut with Metal Blade Records and their most ambitious release yet.
“On Seeking The Absolute, we tried to capture the things that truly excite us deep inside; those unforgettable moments when your mind swings wide open to infinite possibilities,” shares Askhan. “It’s like an enormous puzzle — thrilling yet reflective. That’s why we look upon it as ‘seeking the absolute.’”
Drawing inspiration from ancient Mongolian poetry, myth, and folklore while weaving in universal themes of truth and self-discovery, NINE TREASURES’ lyrics explore both the spiritual and the timeless. As Askhan, a practicing Buddhist, notes of the title track: “It’s about holding onto faith and seeking the ultimate truth of the universe. It’s a message to myself, but also a source of strength I hope others can share.”
Musically, the album shifts seamlessly from headbanging fury to progressive atmospheres, incorporating Mongolian techniques and songwriting structures in fresh, innovative ways. This versatility positions NINE TREASURES alongside forward-thinking heavyweights, whether sharing a stage with Amon Amarth or Tool.
The first single, “Real Dream”, written while the band was in Los Angeles, represents a pivotal rebirth.
“Real Dream marked a turning point for us,” explains Askhan. “It was like stepping into a new dimension. We broke through a creative bottleneck and pieced together the arrangement through endless trial and error. In the end, we got exactly what we had envisioned — it was all worth it.”
