Limberlost Talk “Alien”, Beautiful Scars & Rock Legacy | Crannk’d Up With Jai That Aussie Metal Guy

Interview by Jai That Aussie Metal Guy – Crannk’d Up

Limberlost is back—and they’re not pulling any punches.

The American rock powerhouse has just dropped their emotionally charged new single “Alien”, the first taste of their upcoming concept album Beautiful Scars. A cinematic fusion of soaring vocals, heavy guitars, soul-laced grooves, and industrial rock energy, “Alien” dives into the raw terrain of identity, isolation, and cosmic wonder. Think Evanescence meets Linkin Park with a touch of haunting space opera—and you’re only scratching the surface.

On the latest episode of Crannk’d Up With Jai That Aussie Metal Guy, I had the pleasure of sitting down with five core members of Limberlost: vocalist Brittany Lauren, bassist Steve Unger, guitarist Devon Unger, drummer and founding member Mike Burt, and keyboardist Anthony Ciarochi. What followed was an open and electric conversation about the band’s evolution, the making of “Alien,” and what fans can expect from Beautiful Scars.

A Song for the Outsiders

‘Alien’ is an anthem for anyone who’s ever felt like they didn’t belong,” says Brittany Lauren. Drawing from her background in opera and her deep emotional well, Brittany delivers a performance that’s equal parts vulnerable and commanding. The lyrics reflect personal battles and universal truths, wrapped in a soundscape that hits hard and lingers long after the final note.

Limberlost Levels Up

Backing Brittany’s vocals is a lineup that’s undergone some powerful changes. The addition of Steve Unger, bassist for legendary bands Metal Church and Autograph, brings veteran weight and precision to the rhythm section. “Joining Limberlost was a natural fit,” Steve explains. “The music is real, it’s powerful, and the band has that hunger.”

And with him came his son, Devon Unger, a shred-ready guitarist whose melodic sensibility and stage swagger give the band a modern edge. “Playing in a band with my dad is wild—it’s inspiring, honestly. And it pushes me to bring my A-game every time,” Devon shares during the chat.

On drums, Mike Burt—Limberlost’s founder—anchors the band with thunderous precision and a clear vision. “This lineup just clicks. There’s chemistry, there’s unity, and we’re telling stories that matter,” Mike says.

And rounding out the sonic depth is Anthony Ciarochi on keys, adding the dramatic flair and cinematic texture that elevate the band’s sound beyond straight-up rock into something more expansive. “Keys aren’t just background here—they’re part of the story,” he notes.

The Rise of Beautiful Scars

The band promises that Beautiful Scars will not only expand on the emotional intensity of “Alien” but take listeners on a full conceptual journey—one of pain, healing, identity, and empowerment. “It’s about the marks life leaves on us,” Brittany adds. “But instead of hiding them, we own them. That’s where our strength lies.”

Backed by Paul Crosby Management (led by Saliva drummer Paul Crosby), Limberlost is not just building a sound—they’re building a movement.

What’s Next?

With tour plans in motion and more music on the horizon, Limberlost is poised to carve a permanent space in the modern rock landscape. “We’re just getting started,” says Mike. “This is the best version of Limberlost yet.”

Whether you’re a longtime fan or hearing them for the first time, Limberlost’s Alien is a must-hear—bold, brave, and beautifully unhinged.
