Phoenix’s groove/thrash juggernaut INCITE are locked, loaded, and ready to unleash hell with their most ferocious offering yet, Savage New Times, dropping August 15, 2025 via Reigning Phoenix Music. On the eve of the release of the album, Jim and Jai caught up with frontman Richie Cavalera for a deep-dive chat on the record, the blistering new single “Lies,” wanting to get back down under with Incite, and all things Savage New Times.
The track — a searing mix of high-speed thrash attack and groove-heavy stomp — is a statement of intent. It’s a warning shot for Savage New Times, an album that pushes INCITE’s sound further into the red while holding onto the unbreakable backbone they’ve built since their 2004 beginnings. The Savage New Era
INCITE’s eighth full-length, Savage New Times, might just be their most dangerous to date. Produced by Steve Evetts (The Dillinger Escape Plan, Hatebreed) and mixed by Arthur Rizk (Soulfly, Municipal Waste), the record captures the live-wire aggression the band is known for, while Marcelo Vasco’s (Slayer, Kerry King) artwork wraps it all in suitably menacing visuals.
From the speed-and-venom of “Lies” to the grinding groove of “No Mercy No Forgiveness,” the feral swing of “Just a Rat,” and the bloodthirsty title track, this album doesn’t let up. It’s a record that feels like a culmination of everything INCITE have fought for — and survived — over two decades.
Part of that evolution comes from the addition of guitarist Layne Richardson, whose playing has injected new fire into both the writing room and the stage. Alongside long-time rhythm section Lennon Lopez (drums) and EL (bass), INCITE sound like a unit built for war.
Relentless on the Road
If there’s one thing that defines INCITE beyond the riffs, it’s their touring grit. They’ve shared stages with DevilDriver, Six Feet Under, and Soulfly, torn up festivals from Bloodstock to Heaven and Hell, and hit continents from Russia to Australia to South America. They’ve even proven they’ll drive 500 miles through a blizzard just to make a gig. That’s not hype — that’s hunger.
