Los Angeles-based theatrical metal powerhouse Illusions of Grandeur have carved out a unique path in the heavy music scene, blending mythological storytelling, dramatic performance, and crushing metal into one unforgettable package. At the heart of their artistic force is the enigmatic and commanding presence of The Siren (Maggie), and the sonic architect behind the wall of riffs and cinematic production,Archangel (CM) .
I recently had the pleasure of sitting down with both Maggie and CM for a deep dive into their journey, the evolution of their mythos-driven music, and their latest release The Siren Rises Part 1: The Witch – an epic chapter in their ongoing saga that dropped in January 2025.
A World Built on Myth and Metal
From the outset, Illusions of Grandeur were never going to be just another band. Formed in 2015, the project was envisioned as a full-spectrum experience—one that blends the raw energy of metal with layered, theatrical world-building. At the center of this universe is The Siren, a character Maggie channels with fierce intensity onstage and in the studio.
“The Siren represents power, transformation, and the eternal struggle between light and darkness,” Maggie shared. “She’s part myth, part mirror. Everything we do revolves around telling her story through voice, visuals, and performance.”
With influences ranging from In This Moment, Rammstein, and Slipknot to ancient Greek and Norse mythology, Illusions of Grandeur has built their own mythology—one that continues to unfold across albums, stages, and continents.
The Witch Is Here
Their newest EP, The Siren Rises Part 1: The Witch, is the first in a two-part release arc that sees The Siren entering darker, more dangerous territory. With heavy riffing, symphonic textures, and raw emotion, the EP marks a sonic and narrative evolution for the band.
Tracks like “Destroyer” and “Witch’s Call” (example placeholder titles) dive into themes of transformation, exile, and rebirth—all while delivering headbanging riffs, soaring vocals, and massive hooks. It’s theatrical metal done with depth and vision.
The Siren Nation Rises
Over the years, Illusions of Grandeur have built a passionate global fanbase affectionately known as The Siren Nation. They’ve played stages across the U.S., UK, Germany, France, and even Ukraine, sharing bills with the likes of DOPE, Stitched Up Heart, Otep, Stryper, and New Year’s Day.
Live, the band is a spectacle. From costumes and lighting to dramatic retellings of mythological stories, their Siren Saga show isn’t just a performance—it’s an experience.
EXCLUSIVE: Supporting Tim “Ripper” Owens on Tour
In an exciting exclusive announcement during our interview, Illusions of Grandeur revealed that they’ll be hitting the road later this year in support of metal legend Tim “Ripper” Owens.
Best known for fronting Judas Priest, Iced Earth, and KK’s Priest, Ripper is one of the most iconic voices in metal—and this tour will give Illusions of Grandeur the opportunity to bring The Siren Saga to even wider audiences.
If that wasn’t enough reason to catch a show, the band hinted there may even be more new material or elements from Part 2 debuting on the road.
What Comes Next?
With The Siren Rises Part 1: The Witch gaining traction and the Ripper tour ahead, 2025 is shaping up to be a massive year for Illusions of Grandeur. But if you thought things were intense already—this is just the beginning.
Until then, crank The Witch, join The Siren Nation, and prepare yourself for a live show that’s unlike anything else in metal.
