Few modern extreme metal bands manage to balance brutality with theatrics as seamlessly as Gorotica, and with their upcoming album Daily Grind of the Medieval Age (out October 3), the trio plunge listeners headfirst into a grotesque world of necro-sorcery, medieval rituals, and sonic carnage.
Formed in 2019, Gorotica have always thrived on a tongue-in-cheek yet sinister approach to death metal, weaving historical brutality with morbid humor. Guitarist and bassist Gaspard La Verge, alongside vocalist/lyricist Jon Von Cannibale, and Raymonde Peste – Drums/Production, have carved a distinct identity that’s equal parts savage riffing, ritual atmosphere, and warped storytelling.
The new record is a step further into that unholy theatre. Where previous releases leaned on relentless blasting, Daily Grind of the Medieval Age tempers chaos with doomier, mid-paced grooves. Tracks like “Sage, Clove and Powdered Bone” show a more deliberate, ritualistic side, while “Rats In A Bucket” and “Studying The Stump” embody the raw savagery fans crave. Meanwhile, the gruesomely playful “Mangled In The Livery” proves Gorotica haven’t lost their twisted sense of humor.
Beyond riffs and growls, the album incorporates a surprisingly rich sonic palette—harpsichord, horns, choirs, and layered percussion—that brings an almost liturgical weight to the carnage. This expansion was made possible through collaborations with outside musicians, further immersing listeners in Gorotica’s plague-ridden, blood-drenched world.
Visually, Gorotica have doubled down on their aesthetic. The Pieter Bruegel painting chosen as cover art conjures medieval madness, while their latest video leans into hooded monks, alchemical rituals, and a corpse turned into a feast—a grotesque banquet perfectly matched to their sonic depravity.
Speaking with Jai That Aussie Metal Guy for Crannk, Gaspard La Verge opened up about his evolution from Morbid Menagerie days, the band’s creative dynamics, and the ritual imagery that shapes the new record. With Daily Grind of the Medieval Age looming, Gorotica stand at the edge of a fresh chapter, ready to drag fans deeper into their cavernous bloody tomb.
The record drops October 3, and if this is your first taste of Gorotica—you’re in for a feast. ORDER HERE : https://goroticaculte.bandcamp.com/music
