FINGER ELEVEN Return With ‘Last Night On Earth’ – A Decade in the Making, and Worth Every Damn Minute

Canadian rock royalty FINGER ELEVEN are back — and they’re coming in with fire, ferocity, and a fresh chapter carved out in stone. After a decade-long wait, the Juno Award-winning, multi-platinum alt-rock legends have announced their first new studio album in 10 years, Last Night On Earth, due to drop November 7 via Better Noise Music.

And from everything we’ve seen and heard so far — this isn’t just a return. It’s a resurrection.

The band recently lit up stages across America, joining their old labelmates Creed for the Summer of ‘99 tour — a full-circle moment that not only tapped deep into nostalgia, but re-energized the band in ways they hadn’t anticipated.

“People were just smiling the whole time, it was contagious,” the band said about the tour. That same infectious energy became the catalyst behind Last Night On Earth — a record that sees Finger Eleven embracing the full sonic weight of their legacy, while pushing their sound into even bigger, bolder territory.

The New Single: “Blue Sky Mystery” ft. Richard Patrick of FILTER

Following up on 2023’s high-octane banger “Adrenaline” — which cracked the Top 20 on US Active Rock and smashed the Canadian charts (#2 peak, holding strong in the Top 5 for four months) — Finger Eleven just dropped the second single, “Blue Sky Mystery”, featuring none other than Richard Patrick from FILTER.

This track is heavy, hypnotic, and drenched in classic Sabbath-inspired weight, with a riff that swings like a wrecking ball. Vocalist Scott Anderson dives into themes of obsession and the maddening pull of something you can’t quite define — “The more it’s in front of you, the less you understand it, the more you’re obsessed with it,” he says. “You can’t get your mind around it, or away from it.”

The collaboration with Richard Patrick came naturally. “Working with Scott, James, Rick, Sean and Steve could not have gone smoother. They are good guys and total pros,” said Patrick. “Filter is also celebrating 30 years, and we’ve never had the chance to work together until now. It was a lot of fun.”

Fun fact: The track’s original name was “10 Ton Saber,” which guitarist James Black described as something straight out of Star Wars — “some guy with an enormous, bazooka-sized lightsaber.”

What to Expect from the Album

If “Adrenaline” was the ignition spark, and “Blue Sky Mystery” the sonic gut-punch, Last Night On Earth promises to be one of the biggest rock albums the band’s put together since Them Vs. You Vs. Me.

Guitarist Rick Jackett explains, “As we were making Last Night On Earth, there was this feeling that we were making a big rock record. We had done that early in our career, and then we veered away from it. But it was time to go back and embrace that bigness of the sound. Even the soft songs sound big.”

And big is right — the record pulls from everything that shaped Finger Eleven: Sabbath heaviness, Genesis and Phil Collins melodic textures, and that unmistakable 90s/2000s rock grit. Tracks like “The Mountain” explore the creative process through a fantasy lens, while “Last Night On Earth”, a stripped-down acoustic track, delivers a personal gut-punch that touches on relationship turmoil and emotional wreckage.

The Legacy of One of Canada’s Finest Rock Exports

Originating from Burlington, Ontario, and now primarily Toronto-based, Finger Eleven have earned their place among rock’s upper echelon. With One Thing, they hit Gold in the U.S. and Platinum in Canada. Then came Paralyzer, a global smash that went 5x Platinum, topping charts around the world and staying at the top of the rock radio pile for a jaw-dropping 14-week streak.

Since then, they’ve dropped hit after hit, with 2015’s Five Crooked Lines and 2023’s Greatest Hits (featuring the chart-topper “Together Right”) solidifying their staying power and continued evolution.

And now — with Last Night On Earth — it’s all come full circle.
