What started 20 years ago as a seed by Paul Mazurkiewicz and Vernon Blake’s mutual love for 70’s Rock N Roll has blown into Umbilicus featuring Paul Mazurkiewicz (CANNIBAL CORPSE), guitarist Taylor Nordberg (DEICIDE, INHUMAN CONDITION, THE ABSENCE), bassist Vernon Blake (ANARCHUS, NAPALM DEATH – live), and vocalist and lyricist Brian Stephenson (FORE). I recently caught up with Paul to talk all about Umbilicus and the forthcoming album “Path Of 1000 Suns” due out September 30th through Listenable Insanity Records
When the whole world shut down in 2020 the idea of UMBILICUS once again began to sprout from the seed planted 2 decades before in Paul and Vern’s minds. Enter Taylor Nordberg Riff Extraordinaire. Recruiting Taylor, the 3 crafted the songs that would eventually come to shape “Path of 1000 suns” adding vocalist Brian Stephenson to round out the Umbilicus sound. On “Path of 1000 Suns” you can feel the same intensity you would expect from Paul and Taylor’s Death metal roots, the attitude from Vern’s punk rock past, and the rock n roll vocal melodies Brian Stephenson brings to the table.
