Australian rock and punk fans — this is not a drill. This September, we witness history.
Cherie Currie, the trailblazing frontwoman of the iconic all-girl rock band The Runaways, is bringing her fierce spirit, glam-punk legacy, and thunderous catalogue to Australian stages for one last ride — her final Australian tour.
It’s been nearly a decade since Cherie last graced our shores in 2016. Now, in 2025, she returns for a limited run of explosive live shows that promise to be equal parts celebration and farewell. This isn’t just another tour — it’s a high-voltage sendoff for a woman who helped blow open the doors for generations of female rockers, carving her name into rock ‘n’ roll history with blood, sweat, and cherry bombs.
From the moment Cherry Bomb dropped in the mid-70s, Currie became more than a voice — she became a lightning rod for rebellion, a style icon, and a symbol of defiant youth. Described once as the “lost daughter of Iggy Pop and Brigitte Bardot,” she hit stages around the world with The Runaways — a band that never made it to Australia, but whose shadow has long stretched across the globe.
Now, finally, we get our chance to scream the anthems with her live one last time.
In support of this farewell run, I had the absolute honour of sitting down for an in-depth chat with Cherie Currie — a conversation that dug deep into her career, her legacy, and the fire that still burns within. We talked about The Runaways, the battles and breakthroughs, the glam and the grit, and the emotion behind closing this particular chapter in Australia.
Joining Cherie on tour are rising stars Hot Machine, a five-piece all-girl rock outfit from Melbourne who are bringing their own fire to stages around the country. Their debut EP Leather and Steel turned heads in 2024 with its classic rock muscle, punk edge, and raw charisma — making them the perfect pairing for a tour that celebrates fierce female rock energy across the generations.
