Blindead 23 (Featuring Former Members Of Behemoth And Katatonia) Announce Debut Album Deuterium Set For April 24 Release On Peaceville

Poland’s rising force in progressive and avant garde metal, Blindead 23, have officially announced their long awaited debut studio album Deuterium, set for worldwide release on April 24 via Peaceville Records.

Led by former Behemoth guitarist Mateusz Śmierzchalski, also known as Havoc, Blindead 23 represents a bold new chapter for one of Poland’s most respected experimental metal entities. Previously known simply as Blindead, the reborn collective has evolved into a formidable new creative force blending sludge, post metal, electronics and progressive ambition into a towering modern sound.

The announcement arrives alongside the release of the album’s first single and title track, Deuterium, unveiled with a visualiser created by Matt Vickerstaff.

A New Progressive Powerhouse Emerges

Blindead 23’s lineup reads like a who’s who of European extreme music pedigree. Alongside Śmierzchalski, the band features Roger Öjersson, formerly of Katatonia, and Paweł Jaroszewicz, known for his work with Vltimas, Vader and Decapitated.

Since the rebirth of the band under the Blindead 23 moniker, the group have steadily built momentum. Early compositions resulted in the Vanishing EP, followed by the seven inch single Disposed, their first recording for Peaceville Records, unveiled in 2025.

Now, with Deuterium, the band present their first full length studio statement in this new incarnation.

Recorded in the spring of 2023 at Studio Gröndahl in Stockholm, Deuterium was produced by David Castillo, whose credits include Opeth, Carcass, Katatonia and Leprous. Mixing and mastering were handled by longtime collaborator Kuba Mańkowski.

The result is nearly an hour of meticulously crafted and multi textured progressive metal. Expansive soundscapes collide with crushing heaviness and immersive electronics, forming what the band describe as a conceptual journey. The album unfolds as an uplifting yet often sombre reflection of the soul, exploring transformation, introspection and emotional intensity through layered composition and atmospheric depth.
