This October, Australia’s own melodic death metal heavyweights Be’lakor return to home soil for a monumental run of shows celebrating 20 Years of Live Be’lakor. Known worldwide for their masterful balance of crushing riffs, atmospheric keyboards, and progressive songcraft, the Melbourne five-piece have carved out a reputation as one of the most important voices in modern melodic death metal.
Joining them for this special occasion are Andorra’s progressive death lords Persefone, making their very first appearance in Australia, and local icons Orpheus Omega, who are themselves celebrating the 10-year anniversary of their landmark album Partum Vita Mortem. This lineup promises an unforgettable showcase of technical prowess, emotion, and world-class heavy music.
I had the absolute pleasure of sitting down with Steve Merry, Be’lakor’s founding keyboardist and sonic architect, to dive deep into the band’s journey. From their formative years and acclaimed albums like Stone’s Reach and Of Breath and Bone, through to their most recent opus Coherence, Steve shared insights into how Be’lakor continues to strike that delicate balance between heaviness, melody, and atmosphere, as well as what fans can expect from the upcoming 20 Years of Live Be’lakor tour.
