As the explosive frontman of Black Rheno, Milla has been at the heart of one of the country’s most unpredictable and exciting bands since their 2015 debut. From the moment Let’s Start A Cult dropped, Black Rheno carved out a space where sludge, grind, punk, and groove collide—and they’ve never looked back.
Over the years, Black Rheno have rumbled stages across Australia and abroad, touring with the likes of Napalm Death, Brujeria, Revocation, EyeHateGod, Philip H. Anselmo & The Illegals, Red Fang, and even the almighty Pantera. Their reputation for wild shows—equal parts punishing riffs and mischievous antics—has made them a must-see force in the scene.
Their latest release, A Bad Ass Love Song, is a tongue-in-cheek yet crushing banger that captures everything Black Rheno do best: heavy grooves, chaotic energy, and a wink at the absurd. With a new full-length already recorded in the U.S., Black Rheno are once again poised to unleash carnage on the heavy scene.
But Milla’s creative work doesn’t stop at the microphone. He’s also a co-founder of Cult Etiquette PR, pushing heavy bands across Australia and beyond, and the force behind Housefox Studios, a recording hub that’s become home to countless heavy projects.
I (Jai That Aussie Metal Guy) sat down with Milla alongside special co-host Jim Taylor (The Infinite Staircase / Lenne) for a deep-dive conversation spanning the chaos of Black Rheno’s career so far, the launch and growth of Cult Etiquette, and the artists shaping sounds at Housefox Studios.
