Following the release of their searing new EP Umbra, Australian metalcore heavyweights Artifact have unleashed the cinematic and hauntingly intense music video for the track Atrophy.

Filmed in the remote stretches of rural New South Wales, the video conjures a chilling, eerie atmosphere that mirrors the song’s dark lyrical core. Vocalist Michael Veneris explains:
“Atrophy is built on a foundation of unease and emotional abrasion. This track unravels the torment of body dysmorphia, perfectionism, and dissociation through a hauntingly volatile soundscape. It captures the internal decay of identity and the desperate search for recognition, framed by surreal imagery and visceral intensity. A confrontational descent into the psyche, where self-perception fractures under the weight of obsession and isolation.”
There’s a wild energy in this one—Artifact don’t just play metalcore; they sculpt chaos. From the razor-sharp dual vocals of Michael Veneris and Rebecca Horseman to the crushing, immersive guitar landscapes of Hayden Rapley and Nathan Clarke, every riff and drum hit (courtesy of the relentless Harvey Saxton) drags you through a storm of sonic and emotional intensity. It’s oppressive, it’s beautiful, it’s devastating—and it cements Artifact as one of Australia’s most intriguing and promising metalcore acts.
The video, directed and produced by filmmaker Damien Jenkins and featuring the haunting performance of Sarah Mifsud, amplifies the EP’s darkly cinematic vision. Artifact once again teamed with ARIA Award-winning producer Lance Prenc, whose work with Polaris and Alpha Wolf elevates Umbra to a visceral, arena-ready sonic assault.
Umbra is available now via Bleeding Art Collective in partnership with Blood Blast Distribution.
