To mark this major return, AFI have just unveiled the first single, “Behind the Clock” — a brooding, dreamy, and emotionally layered track that sets the tone for what promises to be one of the band’s most sonically daring efforts to date. And to bring the track’s haunting vision to life, the band teamed up with director Gilbert Trejo for a powerful visual accompaniment.
“We wanted the video to feel like you’re seeing something you shouldn’t,” says Trejo. “In effect, you are, because that’s how Davey writes lyrics. He’s expressing himself so openly, that you’re let behind this curtain. It’s a world that most artists don’t cut to, marrow deep.”
