Rising Chicago death metal band NECRONOMICON EX MORTIS has unleashed their latest single, “Trick or Treat,” the first track off their highly anticipated EP The Mother Of Death, set to be released on November 29, 2024. Just in time for the Halloween season, “Trick or Treat” delivers a horrifyingly brutal take on the holiday with the band’s signature blend of death metal, horror themes, and blistering guitar work. The track’s accompanying lyric video, is filled with Halloween imagery and horror visuals’.
“Trick or Treat” showcases the band’s love for Halloween and the darker side of the festivities, blending aggressive riffs and guttural vocals with gory imagery. The track is a fast-paced, adrenaline-pumping anthem that imagines carving out human skulls to make gruesome jack-o-lanterns. Fans of death metal and horror alike will be drawn into its macabre yet thrilling sound.
“This tune is Necronomicon Ex Mortis at their most “accessible,” but without sacrificing any of the brutality found in their earlier music,” says guitarist Michael Nystrom Bala. “The song is inspired by bands such as Dark Tranquility and Children of Bodom, but also boasts a “classic English metal” style bridge with a guitar solo straight out of a Racer X album right in the middle. Lyrically, the song talks about the fun had on the holiday of Halloween, while also hollowing someone’s skull to make a Jack-O-Lantern. Gory good times! This tune takes the opening slot for how catchy it is; promising the listener of the spookiness to be found with further listening.”
